Diabetes

At The Schoolhouse Surgery we offer health checks to all our patients between the ages of 40-75, who currently have no known medical problems.

This check includes a blood test for glucose which, if raised, will lead to further blood tests to check for pre-diabetes ( this is known as Impaired Glucose Tolerance ) and this can indicate a risk of diabetes.

We offer annual checks for people with Impaired Glucose Tolerance( IGT ) to monitor and advise on healthy lifestyle.

If a patient with IGT develops  diabetes they are put on our diabetic register. This leads to a referral to the  Retinopathy Screening service, who look after eyes,  and to a diabetic specialist nurse service for expert advice.

We continue to monitor our patients regularly in our diabetic clinic here at The Schoolhouse Surgery.
